Young Ballerinas

Young Ballerinas

It was about twenty years ago when I painted this painting which is about a boy and girl ballerina duo.  What really inspired me to paint this particular subject is that I wanted so much to be considered as a real "Artist" because it was highlly believed at that time in the state of Alabama that anyone who can paint a ballerina that "anyone who can paint a ballerina is considered as a real artist".  However, I misplaced it in the interim and later found it as needed some real improvement. I did added and practically worked and improved that painting.   However, I wanted to put it out front so I can sell it. but I kept wanting to change it.  It was about a a couple months ago that I decided to put it onto YardSellr.com to sell it.  You can go to my YardSellr link at  YardSellr.com/yardsale/MaryComptonAikens and you can make a purchase at my site.

Thank you,

"Giant Olive Trio"

Olives are one of my favorite types of foods that I love to eat as well snack, and that is why I painted this painting called "Giant Olive Trio".  There were some photography "shoots" for a various amount of olives that I placed them in a small rectangular dish.  For as the numbers are concerned,  I love to paint in the number in either three or seven.  However, I decided to use the number of three in this particular painting by placing these jumbo Spanish olives onto this  antique olive pic and lay them down in this small rectangular dish.

Oh by the way, there was a dish that I had not eaten in years which contains olives, that is Tomato Aspic which is one of my most favorite side dishes.  This particular dish not only contatined olives, but included Knox gelatin mix, vegetable juice cocktail, pecans, and not to forget a small dash of Tobasco sauce while it was cooked on the hot stove.  Upon its cooking completion on the stove along with some some cooling, the liquid aspic was then poured into a Jello ring for molding and congeling, and then it was placed in the refrigeraton.  About two hours later, the congeled aspic was both flipped and placed onto a platter which the cottage cheese was then later placed in the inner part of the ring. Yum!  However, I lost that recipe and hope to find another one like that soon.

Another place is where I can find some very fancy olves is at many of the Harris Teeter grocery stores that have a delicattesan.   There is this particular grocery store chain that is located in mainly around the Charlotte, NC area and throughout the most of North Carolina region. It is a very rare occasion that I would buy olives from the "Olive Bar" at this particular store is that they are soo expensive by costing at least $7.50 per pound on a normal basis except for some times when there are some special sales and discounts.  There are at least twelve varieties of these special types of olives which I still would love to try, but I will need to wait until another sale comes on so I can buy them.  Now, you can see why I really love olives.

Sweet Pumpkin Gallery: Color Of The Year Challenge - 2010

Sweet Pumpkin Gallery: Color Of The Year Challenge - 2010: Here is my painting of this challenge called "Color Of The Year - 2012".  The color is called "Tangerine Tango" which is a very popular col...

As I was reflecting over this particular challenge being "The Color Of the Year Challenge" which involved a color called "Tangerine Tango" which I submitted a painting of a bright tangerine-colored poppy.   It is rather incidental that this was also the year of the Dragon.in the Chinese zodiac which made me to realize if any of these were in anyway related to each other.  This year was highly impacting as well highy dramatic - especially in the area of the Presidential races along with debates and all of the fanfare of the London Olympics. Many of these things went and stilll going on and on that it can be soo unrelenting.

It is very hard to believe that 2012 is almost over.  I wonder what the color that will be chosen for the year
of 2013.   The Chinese zodiac has shows that it will be the year of the "snake".  "Hiss!"   Well anyway it will be very interesting to see what the new year will hold.

Maytag Marvel

"Maytag Marvel"

I can picture people wondering and asking "Why in the world is this woman thinking when she painted a picture of an old washing machine and post it in the Daily Paintworks "Gift Challenge II?".   I can tell you my reason on doing this very thing.  It is about how my husband and I have been blessed to have a washing machine that gave us excellent service for these twenty-eight years until a couple of weeks ago when it started to "slow down" due to its age.  Yes, this blog and painting can be used a "testimonial" on the behalf of Maytag and their washing machines and other home appliances.  However, there is something special about this machine because it gave us great service for all of these years along with it being given to us as a wedding present by a very dear aunt and uncle.  Oh by the way, both my husband and I celebrated our twenty-eighth wedding anniversary on Saturday, June the ninth.

"Grand Ol' Flag"

Here is another one of my palette knife paintings.  This time, I am entering it on the Daily Paintworks "The Stripe Challenge"  I am still "practice for perfecting" this type of technique as I strive to do more palette-knife paintings.  Oh well, it is a real enjoyment to me while I sculpt with oil paints as I create various textures and various raised surfaces.  Getting back to the title of this painting, this particular song does bring back very fond memories while my classmates and I were singing this song and other Patriotic songs.  If I correctly remember, it was a presentation sometime back during my elementary school years (probably at a P. T. A. meeting) which we were singing Patriotic songs and we were waving our flags while singing this particular song.  Today, I still love Patriotic songs and music along with having such a deep awe for America and Patriotism which must be preserved and protected at all times and costs.   After all, "Freedom is not free".

A German Getaway This painting is an older challenge from a week ago. I am painting today's challenge as well working on getting this particular picture onto the Daily Paintworks website... I had accentuated more of the pathway and the foliage more than anything else...

A German Getaway - Outdoors, Get-away, Nature,

A German Get-Away It is quite hopeful that I will get this picture onto the Daily Paintworks without any problems. I have been experiencing some problems on my computer due to the size of the pictures that I upload onto the computer. This picture is one of the past "Challenges" with the Daily Paintworks. Its actual size is 7" W X 9" H, and it is painted in acrylic on panel.

"Very Fruity" I drew and then painted this painting which conveys about a bowl full of freshly chopped fruit that sat on a table cloth with some fruit print last night while both my husband and I were waiting on the computer technician was repairing our computer last night. I then started on this painting right after a prayer meeting at church, and this painting took for a total time about four hours. Wow! This painting did turn out as being rather impressive and Impressionistic.

"Southern Magnolia"

"Southern Magnolia"

This my most favorite flower - especially when it comes to painting pictures of them.  The mildly sweet scent, giant petals, and its Southern essence all make this particular flower more special.   Magnolias bloom very well here in Charlotte, North Carolina aound the month of May up to the middle of June.

"Abe Lincoln"

"Abe Lincoln" For the last two nights, I wanted to enter a painting of Abraham Lincoln into the Daily Paintworks Challenge. Since I was the age of twelve, I was intrigued and had a very high interest about Abraham Lincoln and he was facinating to me. Since Abraham Lincoln is my most favorite president, this provides me with a golden opportunity to paint a portrait of Abraham Lincoln and entering this painting into the Daily Paintworks Challenge.

Bright Sunflower Trio

"Bright Sunflower Trio"
This particular painting was painted in oils which are both paste and tube so I can achieve  both a "sculpted" and "textured" feel to this painting.  I had this canvas as well the paints.  There are times when I want to experiment in painting with a palette knife bu using oils.  Yes, I do find this endeavor enjoyable as well taking a break from my acrylics and watercolors.

PARKER & FUNGI

Parker is making new friends wherever he goes. His newest friend's name is Fungi. As Parker was taking a walk one day, he saw Fungi sitting under a tree all by himself. So, being the outgoing guy that he is, Parker stopped and spent the day chatting away with his new friend.

Police Bait - Sugar Blues

"Police Bait - Sugar Blues"

Here is a "Kick-Off" painting of my "Cops-N-Doughnuts" series for an indefinite period of time.  I have not yet done my design of this particular series, however; I am beginning to have more and more of a general idea to what I want.  For sometime, I did have a desire to do paintings of doughnuts since this particular subject started to emerge among several fine artists at least twelve years ago.  There is another reason what inspired me to paint pictures of these "treats" is when I read about these two, female artists doing the "Doughnut Wars" from both East and West Coasts of these United States of America.  Finally, but not least is that I have known for some time that there is a connection between policemen (and policewomen) and doughnuts.  Voila!  Now, that is the key inspiration for me to do these particular subjects  since there is something that I like about policemen and doughnuts.  Yes, I did started to get ideas while talking to policemen about this particular subject as well name associations.
